OFFICE OF CONTINUING COMPETENCY & ASSESSMENT (CCA)
The University of Manitoba, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, Office of Continuing Competency and Assessment, invites applications for a 0.4 FTE Director, Continuing Professional Development (CPD). This is a one-year term position renewable based on a satisfactory review.
DESCRIPTION
Situated in the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, in the Max Rady College of Medicine, the Office of Continuing Competency and Assessment (CCA) supports health professionals with high quality programs in continuing professional development (CPD) and assessment that ensure clinical competency throughout their careers.
Under the general direction of the Associate Dean, CCA, the incumbent will work closely with the Educational Specialist, Director of Research and the Managing Director, to ensure responsive, creative development of the CPD Medicine program while maintaining/exceeding Committee on Accreditation for CME (CACME) accreditation standards. This program is an accredited academic unit responsible for credit courses for physicians in the Province of Manitoba with outreach into Northwest Ontario. The CPD Medicine Program is responsible for rural, urban, province-wide, national and international programs. The program also provides support in the form of event planning and coordination to externally developed CPD events on a fee-for-service basis, as well as, providing accreditation of CPD events on behalf of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) and the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC).
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- A practicing family physician and member of the College of Family Physicians of Canada or a practicing Royal College fellow and member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
- A passion for lifelong learning and experience in and understanding of continuing professional development
- Eligible for or holding full registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba
- An openness to develop skills in facilitation and public speaking
Preferred
- Demonstrated leadership and administrative skills
- Research experience
- Further formal education
THE EXPECTED OUTCOMES OF THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE INCLUDE:
- Leadership and Management
- Development of CPD Medicine Program working collaboratively with the CPD Medicine team
- Liaise with partners/stakeholders at local, provincial and national levels, particularly the Manitoba College of Family Physicians (MCFP), Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC), and CPD committee of Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC)
- Significantly contribute to achieving and maintaining accreditation by CACME, attentive to the CACME Standards and satisfying the requirements of CACME and its constitutive organizations.
- Identify emerging trends and opportunities in CPD and significantly contribute to the CPD portion of the CCA strategic plan
- CPD Program Planning, Provision and Event Accreditation
- Chair the Scientific Planning Committees (SPC) of in house developed programs (or coordinate an alternative)
- Identify programing gaps and lead in collaboration with education specialist and new SPC’s
- When needed serve on the SPCs of co-developed programs seeking College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) accreditation as needed, or ensure the participation of a family physician acting as an Authorized Person of the CPD Medicine Program on such committees
- Ensure that all accreditation/certification policies, procedures and decisions meet or exceed the requirements of the CFPC and RCPSC
- Research Program
- Collaborate with the Director of Research, other colleagues in the Office of CCA, other Universities and with other CPD provider organizations to foster collaborative research and scholarship in CPD
- Work with the Director of Research to develop skills in appropriately collecting, interpreting and responding to various sources of program feedback

- Contribute to the overall strategic planning and evaluation of the Office of CCA
- Collaborates with Directors and staff of other Programs in CCA to realize opportunities for interprofessional CPD programming as it relates to assessment and CPD for dental practitioners, nurses, pharmacists and rehabilitation practitioners.
