Hours of Operation:
Monday-Friday from 8am-4pm. Shifts are given based on operational needs.
Job Summary:
Job Summary: Working as part of the Recycling team, the Recycling Casual assists in all areas of the operation. The role of Recycling Casual is vital in achieving agency goals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Safely operate industrial vehicles in completing assigned tasks.
2. Perform confidential shredding tasks.
3. Manually sort recoverable materials e.t. metal, paper, plastic from waste.
4. Work in accordance with Cosmo Shred’s NAID (National Association for Information Destruction) policies and procedures for handling confidential material.
5. Supervise and work along-side program participants working on the sort belt and/or in shredding area.
6. Complete routine maintenance checks on equipment as required; report concerns.
7. Maintain a clean and safe work environment; compliance with and participation in all safe work procedures and cleaning/disinfecting tasks.
8. Prepare documentation and reports as required by Cosmopolitan Industries Ltd.
9. Participate as an active team member (communication, coverage during staff shortages etc.).
10. Develop effective working relationships with all staff and program participants to ensure a respectful and positive work environment is achieved.
11. Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
- Personal protective equipment required for various activities/tasks e.g. mask, steel-toed boots, safety glasses/goggles, safety vest, hearing protection etc.
- Works both indoors and outdoors
- Environment may expose workers to extreme heat/cold, paper dust, chemicals, diesel fumes, unusual/strong odors and/or contaminated materials/products; pet rabbits, birds and fish; visiting therapy animals e.g. dogs
- Exposure to volatile situations that have the potential to escalate to verbal and/or physical altercation may occur
Schedules may not provide for scheduled breaks May be required to work flexible work hours/days; shift work as scheduled
Skills, Effort and Competencies:
- Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check prior to employment. Education Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent.
Qualifications
- Valid Saskatchewan Driver’s License; must maintain a driving record that is acceptable to Cosmopolitan Industries Ltd. Ability to obtain NAID certification.
- Basic knowledge of equipment maintenance.
Experience
- Experience operating a commercial truck and handling of material preferred.
Communication Skills
- Strong oral communication skills. Ability to record data accurately. Positive approach and professional interactions with co-workers and the public. Consistent demonstration of dignity and respect when interacting with others.
Physical Demands
- Long periods of driving, sitting, standing and/or bending may be required. Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Mental Demands
- High level of sound and independent judgement and reasoning ability. Attention to detail. Ability to multi-task and establish priorities in a changing environment. Strong problem solving ability.
Other
- Ability to work independently as well as part of the team. Strong time management skills. Willingness to participate in and apply relevant training as requested/required by Cosmopolitan Industries Ltd.
