Summary
As the Purchasing Manager, you will lead the purchasing function for Canadian Metal Buildings, ensuring the timely, cost-effective procurement of steel, building components, consumables, and related materials required for production and product delivery. This role is responsible for supplier relationships, pricing negotiations, purchase planning, vendor performance, and supporting purchasers in day-to-day purchasing activities.
Responsibilities
- Supervise day-to-day procurement functions, including oversight of purchasing staff.
- Provide ongoing mentorship, guidance, and development support to purchasers.
- Develop purchasing workflows that align with production schedules and cost objectives.
- Review requisitions, purchase orders, and supplier confirmations for alignment.
- Manage precise procurement records, supplier documentation, and financial reporting.
- Source steel, building components, hardware, consumables, and external services.
- Secure competitive pricing, favorable terms, and reliable blanket orders.
- Evaluate supplier performance across cost, quality, delivery, and responsiveness.
- Cultivate long-term relationships with key suppliers to ensure priority availability.
- Monitor stock levels and usage trends to minimize slow-moving or obsolete inventory.
- Address backorders, sudden pricing changes, and material shortages with mitigation plans.
- Factor in material lead times and reorder points to prevent production downtime.
- Partner with production, estimating, project management, and design teams.
- Drive continuous improvement, supplier consolidation, and better purchasing controls.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree/diploma in Business, Supply Chain, or Operations preferred (equivalent hands-on experience considered).
- 5+ years in purchasing, sourcing, or supply chain.
- Background in manufacturing, steel, construction, or building materials is preferred.
- Experience purchasing steel, metal components, or fabricated products is a strong asset.
- Demonstrated experience or strong aptitude for leading, coaching, and supporting a team.
- Proven ability to manage suppliers, pricing, terms, and delivery expectations.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and experienced with ERP/MRP systems.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment.

- Hours of work: 8:00 am to 4:00 pm
- Monday to Friday
Compensation: The anticipated base annual range for this role is $75,000-$85,000. Actual base annual range offered within this range may differ based on a range of factors, including individual experience, education, skills, and organizational needs.
Pay: $75,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
