Location: Camp Facility (On-Site Residential/Seasonal as applicable)
Position Summary
The Assistant Cook supports the Cook in preparing safe, timely, and nutritious meals for campers and staff. This role helps maintain kitchen cleanliness, follows all food safety standards, and assists with meal preparation, serving, and clean-up. The Assistant Cook plays a vital role in ensuring smooth kitchen operations and providing a positive dining experience throughout the camp program. This position requires the successful application to live on site for the duration of the employment contract.
Key Responsibilities
Food Preparation & Support
Assist the Cook with preparing and serving meals according to pre-planned menus.
Help prepare ingredients, follow recipes, and ensure timely meal service.
Assist in preparing safe, appropriate options for participants with dietary restrictions or allergies.
Food Safety & Sanitation
Follow all food safety, handling, preparation, and storage protocols as directed by the Cook and in accordance with government regulations.
Maintain a clean, sanitized kitchen, including washing dishes, cleaning surfaces, and ensuring safe food storage.
Adhere to all hygiene standards, including proper handwashing and use of protective equipment.
Kitchen Maintenance
Assist in monitoring kitchen equipment for safe operation; report any issues or concerns to the Cook.
Help with routine kitchen organization, restocking supplies, and maintaining cleanliness of food preparation and service areas.
Teamwork & Professional Conduct
Work collaboratively and respectfully with the Cook, Executive Director, and other camp staff to support smooth operations.
Follow instructions from the Cook and assist in any kitchen-related tasks as needed.
Maintain a positive and professional demeanor during interactions with staff, campers, and visitors.
Administrative Duties
Assist the Cook in recording daily tasks, and accurately logging hours worked and breaks taken as required.
Qualifications
FoodSAFE certification is an asset; willingness to obtain certification if required.
Experience in food preparation, kitchen support, or working in a camp or group setting (preferred).
Ability to follow instructions, work efficiently, and manage time in a fast-paced environment.
Strong attention to cleanliness, safety, and detail.
Ability to lift up to 20–40 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work in a warm kitchen environment

Contract length: 8 weeks
Pay: $19.50 per hour
