Temporary assignment - June 28 to July5 MANDARIN language required
About the Client:
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Personal Support Worker to provide essential care for an elderly gentleman in Markham, near Mount Joy GO Station. Our client is completely immobile and non-verbal, requiring comprehensive assistance with all activities of daily living. He communicates minimally through gestures and occasional responses, functioning at approximately a 5 out of 10 on the communication spectrum. He spends most of his day lying in bed watching television and requires full support for all personal care tasks. The family recently returned from living abroad for two years and is in a transitional period while working to re-establish provincial care support. The primary caregiver is his spouse, who manages all daily care responsibilities but needs reliable evening support to maintain her own health and wellbeing.
Responsibilities:
The PSW will provide comprehensive evening care support including assistance with dinner routines, oral hygiene (brushing, flossing, and water flossing), facial care and wiping down, diaper changes including management of bowel movements, and preparing the client for bed. The caregiver will help with positioning and comfort measures throughout the shift, provide companionship and engage with the client through conversation or watching television together, and maintain detailed documentation of care provided including tracking of bowel movements to identify patterns. The role requires following established care routines while remaining flexible to adjust based on the client's needs each day. The PSW will work closely with the family to ensure continuity of care and communicate any observations or concerns.
What We're Looking For:
We need an experienced PSW who is comfortable providing full personal care for an immobile, non-verbal client. The ideal candidate must have strong skills in diaper changing, oral hygiene assistance, and bed care. Mandarin language skills are essential for effective communication with both the client and his spouse. The caregiver should be physically capable of assisting with positioning and personal care tasks, patient and gentle in approach, and able to work independently while maintaining open communication with the family. Experience with clients who have limited mobility and communication is highly valued. The successful candidate will be reliable, compassionate, and committed to providing dignified, person-centered care.
Schedule:
This is a seven-day-per-week position with consistent evening hours from 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM. The four-hour shift is designed to cover the critical evening transition period from dinner through bedtime preparation. The family is seeking a dedicated caregiver who can commit to this regular schedule to provide consistency and build a trusting relationship with the client. The position is initially set for a three-month period with the possibility of schedule adjustments based on identified care patterns and evolving needs.
