Fort Erie School of Music is an award winning music school with 300 plus students and 20 plus faculty members. We are looking for a personable, creative problem solver to join our front desk team in a paid cooperative education work placement intended for post secondary students enrolled in a qualifying co-op program.
We are looking for a part time Office Administrative Assistant.
You will be a first point of contact for families and students, you will support day to day front desk operations, and you will help drive new lesson registrations through warm, confident customer service and sales follow up. Your daily work will include answering phone calls, emails, and walk-in inquiries, assisting current and prospective students and parents, registering new students and processing paperwork, maintaining accurate records and updating databases, communicating clearly with teachers, managing student and teacher schedules, supporting events and recitals, online marketing and following other established procedures..
Because we are a small business, you will also be exposed to a broad administrative workload that can touch many areas of business operations, including scheduling, basic accounting support, marketing support, project coordination, and occasional HR related admin tasks. You are not expected to work and master every domain, but a motivated candidate will find plenty of room to learn and take on responsibility when ready.
We value professionalism, initiative, and practical ideas. We operate with an idea meritocracy mindset: a good idea is valued on its merits, not on who it comes from. If you like to spot problems, pitch improvements, and help streamline workflows, you will have room to do that here. This placement can be an excellent testing ground for an early career in business, especially within education services.
Job Requirements:
You must be able to commit to the Saturday schedule every week throughout your contract, with strong punctuality and dependable attendance. We prefer someone with prior customer service experience who is comfortable speaking with parents, children, teens, and adult students, and who can communicate with confidence on the phone. Sales comfort matters in this role, you will be expected to followup on prospective clients who have already reached out and and sell lesson programs in a helpful but non pushy way in keeping with our values. You should be detail oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast paced front desk environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills are required, along with solid computer skills. You should be comfortable using Google Drive, Gmail, Zoom, and be ready to learn other tools such as Canva and SquareSpace. We also prefer candidates with above average IT skills and practical troubleshooting instincts.
From time to time you may be expected to assist a remote technician by following instructions, testing simple fixes, reporting clear symptoms, and helping resolve occasional tech issues without panic. Good judgment, calm problem solving, and a professional demeanor are essential.
A Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) is required for prospective candidates following a successful interview, applications costs will be partly subsidized if you are a post-secondary student.
In lieu of traditional benefits and paid sick days, you will receive a credit for free music lessons, a 30 minute private lesson once a month at our school, for yourself or for anyone you choose. You will receive comprehensive training and ongoing support, with real responsibility and direct exposure to how a service business runs.
We are prepared to support early career growth through continuity, including steady Saturday employment that you already know well, while you pursue other opportunities.
Interested candidates should apply by email to [email protected] with the subject line: "Office Admin Employment Application: First Name, Last Name."
If you already have a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check, PVSC, completed within the last 12 months, please attach it or forward it with your application email. If you do not have a recent PVSC, selected candidates will be provided instructions on how to obtain one as part of the hiring process.
