The Team
The Special Authority (SA) Unit is a large, established team of 10 pharmacists, 19 technicians, 7 clerks, a correspondence writer and an analyst. The SA program grants full benefit status to drugs, medical supplies or medical devices that otherwise would not be covered or only partially covered. Over 400 medications and devices are available for SA coverage and the SA unit receives approximately 34,000 requests per month, with a savings to the PharmaCare drug budget.
The Role
As a Pharmacist with Pharmacy Clinical Services and Evaluation, you will play a critical role in supporting the Special Authority program and promoting best practices in medication use. Your expertise will help ensure timely access to necessary therapies while contributing to the development, evaluation, and implementation of innovative pharmacy programs that enhance patient care and system sustainability.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Graduation from recognized Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences with a minimum Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy.
- Current registration and License in good standing as a Licensed Pharmacist with the College of Pharmacists of BC.
- Considerable (2-5 years) experience as a licensed practicing Pharmacist in BC retail or hospital pharmacy practice.
- Experience in medical literature research, analysis, and interpretation.
Related experience must include:
- Experience working in a variety of clinical pharmacy practice settings (e.g. acute care, community pharmacy, primary care, long-term care, etc.).
- Experience implementing new pharmacy programs or services.
- Experience in critical appraisal of scientific literature.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Applicants who identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit).
- Applicants with experience in the drug review process
- Applicants with experience in adjudicating drug coverage requests

This is a temporary opportunity until 11/26/2027. This position may be extended or become permanent.
This position can be based out of any of the location(s) listed above.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
