The Cahill Group is seeking qualified and skilled applicants for a Dimensional Controller to support our operations at our Cahill Fabrication Structural shop in Torbay, NL, to support operations at our fabrication facilities in St. John's, NL. As a Dimensional Surveyor, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and accuracy of fabricated components and assemblies by performing dimensional inspections and verification activities throughout the fabrication process.
As a Dimensional Controller, you possess strong technical aptitude, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced fabrication environment. The ideal candidate is committed to quality, safety, and delivering accurate results while supporting some of Canada's largest industrial construction and fabrication projects.
What will you do?
- Perform dimensional inspections of structural steel components, subassemblies, and completed assemblies to confirm member lengths, hole locations, fit-up, alignment, squareness, and overall geometry.
- Conduct dimensional checks on structural steel members and assemblies using conventional measuring tools such as tape measures, steel rules, framing squares, and calipers to verify compliance with fabrication drawings and project specifications.
- Verify fit-up, orientation, and alignment of structural steel members prior to and during assembly to ensure proper match-up for welding, bolting, and final installation.
- Maintain accurate measurement records, inspection reports, and marked-up drawings to support quality control and traceability requirements.
- Identify, document, and report dimensional discrepancies, out-of-tolerance conditions, and non-conformances to supervision, quality personnel, and fabrication teams.

Assist fabrication and quality teams in resolving dimensional issues and implementing corrective actions.
- Support dimensional control processes and quality assurance procedures throughout fabrication activities.
- Collaborate with project teams to ensure dimensional requirements are clearly understood and achieved.
- Promote continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing NCRs and improving fabrication quality.
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with company policies, client requirements, and applicable safety standards.
What will you bring?
- Completion of a diploma, technical training, or equivalent experience in surveying, engineering technology, drafting, fabrication, quality control, or a related field.
- Experience working in a fabrication, construction, manufacturing, or industrial environment would be considered an asset.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, and technical specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
