We are seeking a passionate, hands-on, and knowledgeable Health & Safety Specialist to lead and continuously improve the company’s health and safety program across all locations. Job Overview
The Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive health and safety programs across multiple workplace locations. This role is imperative in ensuring compliance with Occupational Health & Safety legislation, reducing workplace risk, and fostering a proactive safety culture. Working closely with leadership, employees, subcontractors, and external partners, the Health and Safety Coordinator support employee well-being while helping the organization operate safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Program Management
- Conduct monthly workplace inspections at all company locations, including offices located west of GTA.
- Perform random daily site walk inspections across active work locations.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) legislation, regulations, and internal policies.
- Stay current on changes to health and safety standards, legislation, and industry best practices.
Training & Communication
- Prepare and deliver monthly safety toolbox talks for each company or work group.
- Review employee health and safety training certifications and ensure all requirements remain current.
- Provide training in-house for employees (e.g., forklift training).
- Coordinate and schedule mandatory health and safety training programs for employees.
Incident Management & Claims
- Complete incident, injury, and near-miss reports and lead workplace incident investigations.
- Identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and ensure follow-up to prevent recurrence.
- Complete and submit WSIB documentation, including W-7 forms, and follow up on outstanding claims.
- Support return-to-work and modified duties programs in coordination with claims management.
Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC)
- Coordinate, organize, and lead monthly Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings.
- Track committee action items and ensure timely completion of corrective measures.
Inspections & Equipment
- Inspect PPE and safety equipment (e.g., harnesses, hard hats, first aid kits) to ensure compliance and validity.
- Order safety equipment and supplies as required.
- Review and verify site and equipment inspection reports completed by forepersons and supervisors.
Collaboration & Documentation
- Maintain Contractor Compliance Platforms (e.g., ISN, Avetta).
- Work closely with management to identify and address health and safety needs across the organization.
- Review subcontractor health and safety policies, procedures, and documentation for compliance.
- Prepare and complete required health and safety documentation for upcoming projects and site work.
Performance Tracking & Reporting
- Monitor, track, and report health and safety performance metrics, including near misses, injuries, and lost-time incidents.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- Completed Occupational Health and Safety diploma or certificate.
- Minimum 3–5 years of health and safety experience.
- Strong knowledge of applicable OH&S legislation, environmental regulations, and Health & Safety processes.
- Working knowledge of WSIB claims management and return-to-work programs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present to individuals and groups.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including strong Excel skills for tracking, analyzing, and reporting safety data.
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities with strong attention to detail.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
Preferred / Assets
- Experience in the construction and/or industrial sectors.
- Experience supporting multi-site or field-based operations.

Pay: $65,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
