For over 20 years, Larga Kivalliq has been operating a medical boarding home for patients and their escorts from Nunavut. Our services include accommodation, meals, ground transportation to and from the airport and medical appointments, and recreation services.
Position Overview
The Kitchen Helper is responsible for assisting the cook in the kitchen. Their main responsibilities are serving clients and guests, ensuring a clean and orderly kitchen as well as assisting with food preparation as needed. They will maintain various kitchen equipment and report any deficiencies that are found.
Schedule will be Thursday - Saturday, 18 hours per week.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Ensure all food service to the guests is uniformly prompt, courteous, and cheerful.
- Ensure food preparation, food storage, serving and dining areas are clean and organized.
- Wash, dry and put away all dishes and kitchen utensils.
- Mop and sweep kitchen and dining area floors.
- Take out garbage’s and replace garbage bags.
- Clearing and cleaning tables both during and after meal service.
- Organize food deliveries including unloading food, and ensure all food is stored in a safe manner.
- Assist cook in preparing meals and snacks as required.
- Assist cook in plating during meal service times as required.
- Ensure the Front of House is well stocked, presentable, and all food items are of good quality.
- Take requests from clients and guests for alternative meal items.
- Maintain kitchen equipment and report any deficiencies to the Kitchen Manager.
- Maintain a high standard of personal hygiene and grooming.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education & Qualifications
- Highschool diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in the hospitality industry is an asset.
- Possession of a valid Food Handlers Certificate is required.
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) certified is required.
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification is required.
- Able to multi-task efficiently.
- Strong communication skills.
- Excellent organization skills.
- Able to withstand long hours of standing, bending, and moving around.
- Working knowledge of food safety standards and practices.
- Able to use common kitchen equipment and appliances safely.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
