Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Part-Time Machinist / Parts Maker to join our production team 2-3 days a week. This is a perfect opportunity for a seasoned machinist looking for fewer hours.
The ideal candidate will have experience setting up and operating conventional machinery to manufacture high-quality, precision parts, along with mechanical knowledge, and proficiency in reading blueprints and CAD drawings. This role involves operating conventional lathes and milling machines, performing precision machining, and supporting manufacturing processes to produce high-quality components.
Responsibilities
Tasks
- Compute dimensions and tolerances of machine parts
- Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, charts and tables to produce precise parts.
- Repair machine tools and parts
- Set up and adjust production machineries/tools
- Fit and assemble components and machine parts to close tolerance
- Verify dimensions of parts machined using precise measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers)
- Set up and operate conventional and computer controlled machine tools
Equipment and machinery experience
- Automatic lathes
- Drill presses
- Milling machines
- Surface grinders
- Perform machining operations with mechanical knowledge of materials and tooling.
- Support lean manufacturing initiatives by identifying efficiencies in machining processes.
- Assist in troubleshooting machine issues and perform basic maintenance on equipment.
Qualifications
- Mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience in machining, assembly, and welding.
- Blueprint reading and blueprint interpretation.
- Skilled in using calipers, micrometers, and other precision measurement tools.
- Basic math skills for calculating dimensions, tolerances, and machine settings.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
- Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
