Summary
We are looking for a Senior SQL Server DBA to join our growing team. This is a client-facing, delivery-focused role where you will manage and optimize database environments for multiple clients across various industries. You will be the expert in the room — and the calm in the storm when things go sideways.
This is a remote-first position based in the Greater Toronto Area, with occasional in-person team meetings in downtown Toronto.
Responsibilities
- Administer, monitor, and optimize SQL Server environments (on-premises and cloud) across a portfolio of clients
- Perform proactive health checks, performance tuning, and capacity planning
- Design and implement HA/DR solutions (Always On, log shipping, replication)
- Respond to and resolve database incidents, escalations, and performance issues
- Lead and contribute to database projects — migrations, upgrades, consolidations
- Communicate clearly and regularly with clients on status, risks, and recommendations
- Collaborate with internal teams and contribute to continuous improvement of our delivery standards
- Participate in pre-sales conversations and contribute to solution scoping when needed
Must-Have
- 8+ years of hands-on SQL Server DBA experience (2016 through 2022)
- Deep expertise in performance tuning, query optimization, and index management
- Strong experience with Always On Availability Groups, backup/recovery, and security hardening
- Proven ability to manage client relationships and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Ability to work autonomously, manage priorities across multiple clients, and take full ownership of outcomes
- Based in the Greater Toronto Area
Strong Assets
- Experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle
- Knowledge of Business Intelligence tools (Power BI, SSRS, SSIS, data warehousing)
- Solution Architect experience — ability to assess environments and design end-to-end solutions
- Azure or cloud database experience (Azure SQL, RDS, etc.)
- French language skills

Pay: $80,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
