Afternoon Shift: 2:30pm - 1am
Manage and coordinate activities of Area Dock Managers, Supervisors and approx. 75 dock employees while
following the organizations policies and procedures, and any applicable laws. Managing the cross dock operation pertaining to all 3 shifts. Responsible for planning, assigning, and directing work.
JOB SCOPE
- Demonstrate leadership and communicate commitment to quality
- Implement measurement standards and ensure their conformance
- Ensure directly or thru subordinates that dock functions are met in a timely manner within targets
with the optimum use of assigned resources
- Evaluate daily manpower requirements and satisfy request by category
- Evaluate the efficiency of existing processes, ensure procedures are followed and make
recommendations as required
- Ensure that standards are met or exceeded
- Monitor and ensure that staff follow instructions and are in compliance with customer
requirements and expectations
- Plan, monitor, evaluate and optimize dock operation
- Follow up on claims, overages, shortages and identify and determine the problem and the root
causes;
- Report any health and safety issues/nonconformity to the Operations Manager
- Act on all noncompliance issues in a timely manner
- Identify training needs and requirements of individuals and provide resources
- Interview and evaluate skills of applicants when required
- Supervise, develop and coach, train and evaluate the Area Dock Managers
- Establish and maintain regular contacts with client in order to ensure client’s satisfaction
- Investigate causes for customer complaints and ensure proper action is being taken to remedy the
situation
- Ensure that all employees are following their work instructions
- Deal with labour related issues such as hiring, termination, reviews and discipline;
- Enforce Health and Safety rules, policies and procedures and continuously instill a safe working environment.
Qualifications:
- 5 years related industry experience essential - within transportation and cross-docking
- Knowledge of equipment and handling procedures with regards to the trucking industry
- Dangerous Goods Certificate, Forklift Certificate, WHIMS training, familiarity with MSDS
- Strong leadership, while operating as a team player, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities in a
fast paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy with solid organizational skills
- Willingness to undertake new challenges, think creatively, problem-solve and recommend
improvements in a dynamic environment
- Geographical knowledge of the areas serviced in Canada as well as the United States
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Proficient with AS400 systems, Lotus Notes, Word pro, and 123, as well as Microsoft packages
- Basic math skills required for cubing, adding, dividing, figuring percentages etc.
- Minimum Grade 12 completion or equivalency preferred
- Flexibility to work long shifts with ability to work on-call and report to work with minimal notice
