Job Summary:
The Loss Prevention Officer is responsible for safeguarding retail store merchandise, personnel, and customers by identifying and preventing theft, fraud, and policy violations. This role involves proactive surveillance, engaging with store management, and responding to incidents in a professional manner.
Key Responsibilities:
Monitor store premises through direct observation and surveillance systems.
Identify and deter internal and external theft, shoplifting, and fraudulent activity.
Conduct routine floor walks to ensure store security and customer safety.
Apprehend and detain suspects in accordance with provincial laws and company policies.
Prepare detailed incident and arrest reports.
Collaborate with law enforcement and store management when required.
Provide a visible deterrent to criminal activity through professional presence.
Conduct investigations into suspected theft or policy violations.
Assist with audits, inventory counts, and other loss prevention activities.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
Qualifications:
Valid Ontario Security Guard License (Required).
Previous experience in loss prevention, security, or law enforcement is an asset.
Knowledge of Criminal Code of Canada and relevant provincial laws.
Strong observational, communication, and report-writing skills.
Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
Must be able to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Physically capable of standing/walking for extended periods and responding to physical incidents if required.
High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in law enforcement or criminology is a plus.
