About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Litigation Legal Assistant to join our growing law practice. This role provides support across both civil litigation and criminal defense matters and requires a professional who can thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing sensitive and confidential information.
The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of independently managing competing priorities while maintaining exceptional accuracy and professionalism.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Litigation Support
- Draft, prepare, format, and revise legal documents, including civil pleadings, motions, affidavits, charter notices, disclosure requests, and other court materials.
- Manage court filing procedures for both civil and criminal matters.
- Prepare and submit electronic court filings and coordinate service of legal documents.
- Organize trial, hearing, and mediation materials, including trial binders, disclosure packages, and evidentiary documents.
- Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, Crown Counsel, court registries, law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Assist lawyers with legal research, case preparation, and document review.
Administrative & Office Support
- Maintain lawyer calendars and monitor critical deadlines, limitation periods, court appearances, hearings, and filing dates.
- Assist with billing, invoicing, retainer management, and legal aid or institutional billing processes where applicable.
- Manage incoming and outgoing correspondence, ensuring confidential information is handled appropriately.
- Open, maintain, organize, and archive physical and electronic client files.
- Answer incoming calls, greet clients, schedule appointments, and coordinate meeting room bookings.
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and training to junior administrative staff as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Minimum 3-5+ of experience as a Litigation Legal Assistant.
- Legal Assistant Diploma or Law Clerk Diploma from an accredited institution.
- Strong understanding of litigation procedures and legal document preparation.
- Advanced proficiency with: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, Adobe Acrobat Pro
Preferred
- Experience supporting both civil litigation and criminal defense files.
- Experience with court e-filing systems and legal practice management software.
- Familiarity with legal aid billing processes.
Pay: $65,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
