O’Hanlon Paving is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanic ( 2nd year) to work year around in a full-time capacity based in Acheson, AB.
Responsibilities:
- Perform maintenance and repair of heavy trucks and trailers
- Perform preventative and predictive maintenance
- Diagnose cause of any malfunction and perform repairs to manufacturer's specifications
- Maintain a clean and tidy personal work area and assist with general cleaning duties in a workshop environment
- Maintain a daily record of all work tasks and materials
- Support and encourage continuous improvement in work practices
- Inspect, repair and adjust gasoline and diesel powered units
- Keep tools, equipment and work area clean, organized and in good working condition.
- Must ensure a solid understanding of, and comply with the principles of the company’s Code of Ethics.
- Other mechanic and shop duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Completion of grade 12 (not including a general equivalent diploma)
- Registered 2nd year Apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanic in Alberta (or equivalent)
- Knowledge and some experience with diagnostic and repair of heavy equipment, commercial trucks and trailers of many makes and models;
- Must possess a valid class 5 driver’s license (with Air brake, Class 3 preferred) with or above with a clean drivers abstract;
- Ability to work is shift schedule (day time);
- Ability to work continuously for prolonged periods of time under pressure;
- Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 LBS on a regular basis;
- High attention to detail, strong communication skills and ability to follow directions;
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team and independently with minimal supervision;
- Willingness and ability to work extended hours and weekends if required; and
- Valid safety certifications.
