JOB OVERVIEW
REPORTS TO: Director of Culinary Services
The Dining Room Supervisor is responsible for the overall supervision and coordination of dining room operations, ensuring exceptional hospitality, efficient meal service, and a positive dining experience for residents and guests. This position provides direct leadership to dining room staff while promoting a culture of professionalism, teamwork, resident-centered service, and continuous quality improvement.
The Dining Room Supervisor ensures compliance with Public Health regulations, Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority (RHRA) standards, workplace health and safety legislation, and Spring Living’s policies and procedures.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership and Supervision
- Supervise, mentor, and support dining room employees during all meal services.
- Assign daily duties and ensure appropriate staffing levels.
- Monitor employee performance and provide coaching, guidance, and ongoing feedback.
- Participate in recruitment, interviewing, orientation, training, and onboarding of new employees.
- Conduct performance evaluations in collaboration with the Director of Culinary Services.
- Address employee concerns promptly and professionally.
- Participate in progressive discipline consistent with company policies.
- Promote teamwork, professionalism, accountability, and a positive workplace culture.
Resident Experience
- Ensure residents receive courteous, respectful, and timely service at every meal.
- Promote a warm, welcoming, and home-like dining atmosphere.
- Develop positive relationships with residents and families.
- Address resident concerns promptly and resolve service issues effectively.
- Monitor resident satisfaction and communicate opportunities for improvement to management.
- Support resident choice by accommodating preferences whenever possible.
- Assist with special events, celebrations, themed dinners, and family functions.
Dining Room Operations
- Oversee all aspects of daily dining room operations.
- Ensure dining areas are clean, organized, safe, and attractively presented.
- Conduct opening and closing inspections.
- Monitor table settings, cleanliness, décor, and service standards.
- Ensure proper set-up and breakdown of dining rooms.
- Monitor inventory of dining room supplies including linens, china, glassware, cutlery, condiments, and service equipment.
- Report equipment repairs and maintenance concerns promptly.
Food Service Quality
- Ensure meals are served according to established service standards.
- Ensure dietary restrictions, allergies, texture modifications, and physician-ordered diets are accurately followed.
- Communicate resident feedback regarding food quality to the Director of Culinary Services.
Health, Safety and Regulatory Compliance
Ensure compliance with:
- Public Health regulations
- Safe Food Handling standards
- Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
- Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) practices
- RHRA standards
- Fire Safety Plan and emergency procedures
- Conduct regular dining room safety inspections.
- Report incidents, hazards, and near misses promptly.
- Participate in emergency preparedness, fire drills, and evacuation procedures.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Complete required documentation accurately and on time.
- Assist with scheduling and payroll submissions as assigned.
- Participate in departmental meetings and quality improvement initiatives.
- Support annual inspections and regulatory audits.
- Assist with inventory counts and supply ordering.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Secondary School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Post-secondary education in Hospitality Management, Food Service Management, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or a related discipline is preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in food service or hospitality.
- Minimum of one (1) year in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Experience in retirement living, long-term care, healthcare, hotels, restaurants, or institutional food service preferred.
- Demonstrated experience supervising staff in a customer service environment.
- Food Handler Certification (required).
- Smart Serve Certification.
- CPR and First Aid certification considered an asset.

Pay: From CA$51,000.00 per year
