Criminal Law Legal Assistant (Full-Time Contract Opportunity)
Our client, a well-established and respected downtown Edmonton law firm, is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Criminal Law Legal Assistant to join their team in a full-time contract capacity. This position has the potential to transition into a permanent role for the right candidate.

- Manage lawyers' calendars, including court appearances, deadlines, appointments, and scheduling requirements.
- Coordinate and schedule client meetings, interviews, and court appearances.
- Prepare, maintain, and organize both physical and electronic client files.
- Maintain accurate records and update case management databases.
- Handle incoming telephone calls, emails, and general correspondence in a professional and timely manner.
- Draft, format, proofread, and revise legal correspondence, pleadings, and court documents.
- Prepare disclosure packages, briefs, applications, and other criminal law materials.
- File legal documents with the courts and relevant agencies, ensuring compliance with applicable procedural requirements and deadlines.
- Assist lawyers with file preparation for hearings, trials, and other court proceedings.
- Monitor and track filing deadlines, court dates, and other critical timelines.
- Minimum of two (4) years of Alberta Criminal Law experience is required.
- Graduate of a recognized Legal Assistant or Paralegal Diploma program.
- Thorough understanding of Alberta court procedures, criminal law documentation, and filing requirements.
- Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal practice management software.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
- Arabic language skills would be considered a strong asset but are not required.
