Position Summary
The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for the overall maintenance, conditioning, and presentation of the golf course, practice facilities, and surrounding grounds. The successful candidate will oversee daily operations of the maintenance department, manage staff, maintain irrigation systems, and ensure high-quality playing conditions throughout the season.
Key Responsibilities
Manage all aspects of golf course maintenance and turfgrass management. Develop and implement maintenance schedules for greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and landscaping.
Supervise, train, and schedule maintenance staff.
Monitor turf health and implement appropriate fertilization, pesticide, and disease management programs.
Oversee operation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation systems.
Coordinate equipment maintenance and work closely with mechanics and vendors.
Prepare and manage maintenance department budgets.
Maintain accurate records of chemical applications, irrigation activities, and maintenance operations.
Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and provincial regulations. Communicate regularly with the General Manager regarding course conditions, projects, and operational needs.
Assist with long-term course improvement planning.
Qualifications
Previous experience as a Golf Course Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, or related turf management position.
Strong knowledge of turfgrass management, irrigation systems, fertilizers, and pesticide applications.
Ability to lead and motivate seasonal staff. Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Valid Alberta driver's license.
Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as required during the golf season.
Preferred Qualifications
Diploma or Degree in Turfgrass
Management, Agriculture, Horticulture, or a related field.
Alberta pesticide applicator certification. Experience with irrigation troubleshooting and repair.
Experience managing maintenance budgets and staff.
