Job Summary
This Job is part of the Canada Summer Jobs Program. The Library Assistant is someone who speaks Mandarin or Cantonese and plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations of the library, ensuring a welcoming environment for visitors and maintaining organized collections. This position involves assisting patrons, promoting Chinese Canadian immigration history, managing library resources, and performing administrative tasks to enhance the overall library experience. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, possesses strong communication skills, and is proficient with computer systems and data management tools.
Duties
- Assist library visitors with locating materials, answering questions, and providing excellent customer service
- Organize and file library materials systematically to ensure easy retrieval
- Handle administrative tasks
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the library environment to ensure a pleasant experience for all visitors
- Assist with special projects or events as needed to promote library programs and services
Requirements
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in filing and record keeping
- Excellent communication skills for interacting effectively with patrons and team members
- Proficiency with computer skills, including familiarity with databases, data entry, and general office software
- Ability to perform research and gather information efficiently
- Writing skills for creating clear reports or correspondence as needed
- Typing skills to facilitate quick data entry and document preparation
- Experience or familiarity with library systems or databases is a plus
- Customer service orientation with a friendly, helpful attitude
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
Pay: $18.25 per hour
