About the Role
CCIS YYC Trades Training is seeking a facilitator to deliver a one-week employment readiness workshop for newcomers entering the construction industry in Calgary. You will teach job search strategies, Canadian-style resume writing, interview skills, and essential workplace culture and ethics.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, practical sessions on construction job searching, resumes, interviews, and workplace expectations
- Guide participants in creating Canadian-standard resumes and cover letters tailored to trades
- Teach Canadian workplace culture, safety awareness, communication, and professional conduct
- Provide constructive feedback and localized resources (apprenticeship info, local employers, certifications)
- Foster an inclusive, supportive learning environment for diverse newcomer participants
Requirements
- Proven experience facilitating employment readiness, career coaching, or settlement workshops for newcomers
- Knowledge of Canadian job search practices, resume standards, and workplace expectations
- Strong facilitation, presentation, and group management skills
- Ability to design and deliver a complete, hands-on curriculum in a 1-week intensive format
- Must be able to develop and submit a 5-day lesson plan (9:00 AM – 3:30 PM daily) for the workshop
Preferred Assets
- Experience working with culturally diverse or newcomer communities
- Certification in Career Development, TESL/ESL, HR, or Settlement Services
- Multilingual abilities or pre-developed employment readiness training materials
- Familiarity with Calgary's labour market or willingness to quickly learn sector-specific content
