Shop Assistant / Technician Trainee – Diesel & Light Truck Repair
Bernhausen Specialty Automotive is a growing diesel and light truck repair facility in Langley, BC, specializing in the repair and maintenance of ¾-ton to 5-ton pickup trucks and commercial vehicles.
We're looking for a dependable, mechanically inclined individual to join our team as a Shop Assistant / Technician Trainee. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with their hands and wants to build a long-term career in the automotive industry. As your skills develop, you'll receive on-the-job training and progressively take on light maintenance and repair work under the guidance of experienced technicians.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop.
- Keep work bays, tools, equipment, and common areas clean and orderly.
- Organize and maintain the parts room, inventory, and shop supplies.
- Maintain and organize the exterior yard and storage areas.
- Move customer and company vehicles safely around the property.
- Pick up and deliver parts from local suppliers.
- Assist technicians with repairs and daily shop operations.
- Perform basic welding and fabrication as required.
- Operate shop equipment safely and responsibly.
- Support the team with general shop duties to keep operations running efficiently.

QualificationsRequired
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence with a clean driving record.
- Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated.
- Positive attitude with a willingness to learn.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting heavy components.
- Ability to work safely in a fast-paced shop environment.
Assets
- Previous experience in an automotive, diesel, heavy-duty, agricultural, industrial, or mechanical environment.
- Welding and fabrication experience.
- Experience operating forklifts or other shop equipment.
- Basic knowledge of diesel or light truck systems.
Compensation & Benefits
- $24.00–$30.00 per hour, based on experience, mechanical aptitude, and welding ability.
- Regular performance and wage reviews with opportunities for advancement.
- Full-time, permanent position.
- Monday to Friday schedule – no weekends.
