Position
Part-Time Licensed Optician or Optical Assistant / Front Desk
Compensation: based on experience and qualifications.
Responsibilities
- Welcome patients and provide a warm, professional experience from check-in to check-out
- Answer phone calls, emails, and schedule appointments
- Verify insurance eligibility and process insurance claims
- Maintain accurate patient records using our electronic medical record (EMR) system
- Assist patients in selecting frames and lenses that best suit their prescription, lifestyle, and budget
- Educate patients on lens options, coatings, and specialty products
- Perform accurate frame fittings, adjustments, repairs, and dispensing
- Take optical measurements (PD, segment height, optical center, etc.)
- Perform pre-testing before eye examinations (training provided if needed)
- Process spectacle orders and communicate with optical laboratories
- Verify completed eyewear for prescription accuracy and quality
- Process payments and assist with inventory management and merchandising
- Maintain an organized, welcoming reception and optical dispensary
- Deliver exceptional customer service while working collaboratively with the clinical team
QualificationsWe're looking for either:
✔ Licensed Optician (Ontario)
OR
✔ Experienced Optical Assistant / Front Desk Coordinator
Ideal candidates will have:
- Previous experience in an optometry, optical, ophthalmology, or healthcare clinic
- Knowledge of frames, ophthalmic lenses, contact lenses, and optical dispensing
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Fluent in English (required)
- Ability to speak Mandarin and/or Cantonese is an add on
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Comfortable using computers and learning EMR software
- Friendly, dependable, and a positive team player
- Ability to multitask in a busy clinic environment
Schedule
- Part-time (2–3 days per week)
- Saturday availability is required
- Additional weekday shifts may be available based on clinic needs
