The Opportunity
Our client is seeking a Human Resources & Payroll Specialist to take ownership of both payroll administration and human resources functions.
This is a highly visible role that serves as the primary point of contact for payroll and HR matters across the organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for full-cycle payroll processing, benefits administration, HR compliance, employee relations, onboarding and offboarding activities, policy administration, and HR systems management.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Administration
- Process full-cycle bi-weekly payroll for 65 employees from start to finish
- Administer payroll changes including new hires, terminations, leaves of absence, bonuses, retroactive payments, vacation pay, severance, and taxable benefits
- Calculate severance, termination entitlements, and retroactive adjustments
- Ensure compliance with payroll legislation and company policies
- Review payroll reports and reconcile discrepancies
- Prepare annual payroll reconciliations including T4s, CPP, and EI reporting
- Maintain payroll records and support audit requirements
Human Resources
- Serve as the primary HR contact for employees and managers
- Provide guidance regarding HR policies, procedures, and employment legislation
- Support onboarding, orientation, and employee documentation
- Coordinate employee communications and announcements
- Draft and update policies, procedures, and employee handbooks
- Support employee relations matters and HR administration
- Assist with employee development initiatives and performance management processes
- Participate in health and safety programs and compliance initiatives
Benefits & HR Systems
- Administer employee benefits and RRSP programs
- Manage employee life-cycle changes and benefit enrollments
- Act as a key user and administrator of ADP Workforce Now
- Assist with implementation of additional system modules and process improvements
- Maintain employee records and ensure data accuracy
- Support internal and external audit requirements
Reporting & Analysis
- Perform payroll and benefits reconciliations
- Review and interpret payroll-related general ledger information
- Assist with compensation calculations and budgeting activities
- Maintain reports, spreadsheets, and HR analytics
- Prepare workforce and payroll reports for management
Qualifications
- 5+ years of payroll experience with hands-on payroll processing responsibilities
- 5+ years of human resources experience
- Strong knowledge of Ontario employment legislation and payroll regulations
- Strong Excel skills
- Experience with ADP Workforce Now is an asset
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
