Being a labourer with Turf Development helps contribute to the conservation of municipal land, and the maintenance and improvement of outdoor recreational opportunities through the performance of manual labour and tasks. This posting is for one hourly position for up to 8 weeks
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform manual tasks including use of hand power tools and equipment (shovels, rakes, screwdrivers, etc.)
- Learn the safe operation of small equipment (string trimmers, push mowers, drills, backpack sprayers, etc.)
- Operate various fleet units from ½ ton to one-ton trucks, small UTV’s and other ride on equipment
- Follow safety guidelines, policies and procedures to ensure the safety of individual, others and visitors in the workplace
- Mowing & trimming parks, trails and green spaces
- Servicing waste receptacles, recycle bins and organic carts
- Inspection and disposal of unauthorized use scenarios along with litter and waste cleanup of RPC spaces
- Partake in special events and projects such as Canada Day festival & clean up
- Assist with the construction, maintenance and inspection of outdoor recreational infrastructure amenities (including playgrounds, outdoor fitness equipment, spray parks, tennis/pickleball courts, BMX bike skills park, skate parks, outdoor hockey rinks, ball diamonds, basketball courts etc)
Perform graffiti removal, fence painting, and other maintenance as needed

Qualifications and Skills:
- Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact in a positive manner with others
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, and to maintain concentration and alertness for extended periods of time
- Ability to adapt to new and changing situations, combined with initiative and responsibility
- Proficiency in the use of a variety of hand and power tools
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety, MSDS and WHMIS regulations and First Aid Training
- Ability and willingness to perform duties in inclement weather and adverse weather conditions
- Minimum Grade 10 education
- Minimum of one year driving experience
- Experience with the use of a variety of hand and power tools
- Previous experience as a labourer or in landscaping, construction, forestry, greenhouse, playground, golf course, agricultural, or irrigation practices would be considered an asset
- Experience operating small equipment would be considered an asset
Current First Aid and CPR certification would be considered an asset

Conditions of Employment:
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
- Ability and willingness to perform various types of physical labour including moderate to heavy lifting (up to 23 kilograms), standing, bending, shoveling, etc.
Ability and willingness to perform duties in inclement and adverse weather conditions
