Cultural Activities Worker - Indigenous Program
Status: BCGEU Bargaining Position- Casual/Seasonal (Richmond BC)

Hours: 35 hours/week (includes some evenings and weekends)
Wage: $20.00/hour
About the Role
We are seeking a Cultural Activities Worker to join our Indigenous Program team. This role involves planning, organizing, and facilitating community-based recreational, social, and educational activities for Indigenous children, youth, and families. The position offers hands-on experience in community services, cultural studies, and youth engagement, with a focus on fostering cultural connection and community building.
Work Environment:
· Onsite at Connections Community Services Society
· Offsite venues as required
*** Preference will be given to qualified Indigenous applicants, in alignment with the program's goals and community needs.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Research, plan, and deliver culturally relevant program activities.
2. Assist in developing and running summer day camps for the Indigenous program.
3. Supervise and support participants in program activities.
4. Create a welcoming, safe space for cultural and artistic expression.
5. Help coordinate and execute special events.
6. Develop and implement a social media plan (e.g., Instagram content, client personas, posting schedules).
7. Complete administrative tasks, including record-keeping and reporting.
8. Perform other duties as assigned by the Society.
Qualifications:
Eligibility (per Service Canada’s Canada Summer Jobs Program):
· Aged 15+ (Criminal Record Check required).
· Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected refugee entitled to work in Canada.
· Full-time student in the previous academic year or enrolled for upcoming September.
Skills & Assets:
· Cultural competency and experience with Indigenous communities.
· Strong communication (oral/written) and interpersonal skills.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
· Organized, detail-oriented, creative, and enthusiastic.
· First Aid, CPR, or Food Safe certification (asset).
· Class 5 driver’s license (asset; vehicle not required).
· Knowledge of local organizations (e.g., CCSS) or second language (asset).
