ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Program Manager, Transportation Planning and Research, this position responsible for developing Regional procedures, policies, and reports on transportation equity and transportation capacity and demand; developing and maintaining databases, tools, techniques, templates and manuals necessary to prepare and publish these reports; supporting the development and implementation of the Regional Transportation Master Plan, Development Charges Background Study, Provincial and municipal transportation plans, and Regional transportation planning projects and programs; and providing support and input to the annual review of the bus rapid transit, transportation equity, and road capital construction programs; and monitoring changes to municipal, Regional, Provincial and Federal plans, policies, standards and legislation affecting the transportation system.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Develops Regional procedures, programs, policies, and reports on transportation equity and transportation capacity and demand.
- Supports the development and implementation of the Regional Transportation Master Plan, Development Charges Background Study, Provincial and municipal transportation plans, and Regional transportation planning projects and programs.
- Prepares and publishes complementary overview reports, brochures and briefing notes.
- Provides data and input to the Bus Rapid Transit, Transportation Equity, and Road Capital Improvement Priority Setting Models.
- Develops, identifies and maintains the databases, processes, techniques and tools to monitor transportation equity, transportation capacity and demand.
- Defends the data, assumptions, procedures, methodologies, techniques and tools used to derive transportation equity, transportation capacity and demand at meetings with senior management and municipal officials and at Committees of Council.
- Performs other duties as assigned, in accordance with Branch and Department objectives.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Successful completion of a University Degree or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Registration with a recognized professional engineering or planning organization.
- Minimum five (5) years demonstrated experience in transportation engineering or transportation planning with experience conducting transportation data analysis studies.
- Thorough knowledge of transportation planning principles, concepts, practices, methods and legislation, GTA context and roles of different levels of government.
- Demonstrated knowledge of transit systems, roads planning, travel demand modelling and forecasting methods, transportation demand management and sustainable transportation principles, concepts, practices, methods and legislation.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Planning Act, other related legislation and policy and planning in a public sector environment.
