WaterBridge Ferries is a private-owned ferry operator company based in Nakusp, British Columbia, Canada. As contractors to the Ministry of Transportation and Transit, we are responsible for the safe ferry passage of people in the communities surrounding the Arrow Lakes in BC. Our ferry crews are Transport Canada trained and certified. We pride ourselves on the impact we make on the local economies in which we operate.
Who you are:
You have many years of mechanical experience and known as the person who can fix anything. Whether in the back woods or in a shop; you are happiest making things work when breakdowns occur. As the marine mechanic, you'll work in a hands-on, flexible environment where you can leverage your expertise on diesel engines, hydraulics, and fabrication without the constraints of a large shop. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a semi-independent setting, handling everything from diagnostics to custom repairs. Even though you have never worked in a marine environment you understand the basic of machinery and the ancillary support systems. If you love getting your hands dirty working on heavy machinery and learning new things this is your chance to build a rewarding gig with room for growth.
Heavy- Duty Mechanic/Millwright
Key Accountabilities:
· Performs work with safety as a priority
· Responds to equipment emergency situations locally and remotely
· Maintains service logs and records of maintenance on equipment
· Uses cutting and welding equipment for fabrication of small parts required during maintenance
· Trouble-shoots and repairs hydraulic and pneumatic systems
· Maintain mechanical systems related to the water/sewer, HVAC and building systems, fire alarms
· Performing a wide variety of general and specialized maintenance and repairs to the engineering systems including: pipe fitting, electrical, welding, machining and custom fabrication using a wide range of materials
· Inspecting, maintaining and rebuilding motors and pumps and other machinery associated with marine support systems and building systems
Valued Certificates
· Red Seal Mechanic, Millwright Designation or relevant experience
· Backyard or mobile repair experience a huge plus
· Crane Ticket - folding boom, 10 ton an asset
· Valid Class 3 license with heavy trailer endorsement or better an asset
· Proficient in welding
Skills/Experience
· Marine industry experience highly valued
· Ability to effectively troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve equipment breakdowns quickly
· Proficient with computer applications including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and CMMS programs
· Self-starter mindset—no micromanagement here
· Effective interpersonal skills, including tact and diplomacy while working with a variety of individuals and groups
· Ability to lift heavy items, climb stairs and enter confined spaces
Working Conditions:
· Work is mostly performed onboard marine vessels, terminals and in a shop
· The worksite is subject to weather impacts and may result in a cold, hot or wet working environment
· Work may be required in confined and dirty spaces
· Use of chemicals may be required
· Periodic vessel maintenance will require working long hours and various times of the day
· Noise is considered above normal when working in engine room areas; hearing protection is supplied
Work Hours: 40 hours per week with a potential for a compressed work schedule. Schedules will be adjusted based on projects and the needs of the operation. This position is part of a continuous operation, the flexibility to work weekends and/or holidays is required and after hour call-outs may occur.
Compensation:
This position is non-union and completes work in a unionized environment. You will receive a competitive annual salary, relocation assistance, full benefits including contributions to a pension plan and access to a company vehicle.
