Job Summary
The Career Consultant is responsible for delivering employment and career development services that empower individuals to achieve their employment, education, and career goals. Working within a community-based environment, the Career Consultant provides individualized career planning, employment counseling, job search support, resume and interview preparation, labour market information, and referrals to community resources and training opportunities. This is a hybrid Position shared between Virginia Park Community Centre and Froude Avenue Community Centre, with two days per week at each location. The fifth day will be work from home or in the office, depending on operational needs.
This position builds strong relationships with employers, community partners, and service providers while maintaining accurate client records and meeting program targets and reporting requirements. The Career Consultant works collaboratively across Community Centre Alliance's five partner community centres to deliver high-quality, client-centred services that respond to the diverse needs of job seekers. The ideal candidate is passionate about helping others, possesses strong communication and organizational skills, and is committed to supporting individuals in overcoming barriers to employment and achieving long-term success.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide individualized career and employment counselling to assist clients in identifying career goals, developing employment action plans, and overcoming barriers to employment.
- Conduct comprehensive client assessments to determine employment needs, skills, interests, education, and work experience.
- Assist clients with resume and cover letter development, interview preparation, job search strategies, and labour market information.
- Support clients in accessing education, training, employment opportunities, and appropriate community resources through referrals and advocacy.
- Develop and maintain relationships with employers, community partners, educational institutions, and service providers to enhance employment opportunities for clients.
- Deliver workshops, group sessions, and information presentations on employment readiness, career planning, workplace skills, and related topics.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records, case notes, statistical information, and reports in accordance with funder and organizational requirements.
- Meet established service targets and reporting requirements while ensuring high-quality, client-centred service delivery.
- Promote Community Centre Alliance programs and services through outreach activities, networking, community events, and employer engagement.
- Work collaboratively with Community Centre Alliance staff across all five partner community centres to ensure coordinated service delivery and operational effectiveness.
- Remain current on labour market trends, employment legislation, training opportunities, and best practices in career development.
- Participate in team meetings, professional development opportunities, and other duties as assigned to support the goals and objectives of Community Centre Alliance.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build positive, respectful, and supportive relationships with clients, employers, community partners, and colleagues.
- Strong presentation and facilitation skills with the ability to deliver engaging employment, career development, and workplace readiness workshops.
- Knowledge of career development principles, employment counselling techniques, job search strategies, labour market information, and community resources.
- Ability to assess client needs, identify barriers to employment, and develop individualized employment action plans.
- Strong coaching and mentoring skills with the ability to motivate, encourage, and empower individuals from diverse backgrounds to achieve their employment and career goals.
- Experience providing resume development, interview preparation, job search assistance, and employment readiness support.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and experience using the ARMS database for client case management, documentation, reporting, and service tracking.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and case management skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands and meet program targets and deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with sound judgment and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively as part of a collaborative team.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical standards in all aspects of client service delivery.
- Knowledge of employment programs, labour market trends, and community services within Newfoundland and Labrador is considered an asset.
