Silver Springs Preschool firmly believes in developing a strong social and emotional skill set, on which, any future learning can be built. Play, in both our indoor and outdoor classrooms, is a crucial and integral part of both the social and emotional development but also of the cognitive and physical development of children.
We require a part-time Assisstant Teacher to join our team. The Assistant Teacher will provide additional support to our 4 year half day class during their classroom and outdoor time. The candidate will work alongside the Lead Teacher in a supporting role. The preschool program has an emphasis on outdoor play.
This position is expected to be approximately 21-24 hours per week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The position will likely be scheduled between the hours of 8:15am - 4:15pm.
There may also be an option to be registered on our substitute list on Tuesdays and Thursdays as needed.
Qualifications
- Level 1 or 2 Early Childhood Education Certificate
- Vulnerable Sector Security Clearance from Calgary Police Service
- Valid First Aid/CPR Certificate
- Ability to think creatively and enthusiastically about outdoor activities
- Physically able to participate in skating, biking, hiking and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits
- Team Player with the ability to collaborate with other staff members during meetings
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to listen and respond appropriately to parents, children and colleagues.
- Ability to take initiative
- Intuitive with situational awareness
Responsibilities
- Assist the Lead Teacher and ensure that students follow the proper procedures and behaviors in the classroom and outdoors
- Help to clean and organize the classroom
- Assist the Lead Teacher in outdoor routines and activities
- Help the children with their craft as directed by the teacher
- Assist during snack time (hand washing, help children with snacks)
- Assist the Lead Teacher in keeping the children focused and attentive during circle time
