This unit specializes in the assessment and treatment of older adults experiencing complex symptoms of dementia and unstable medical conditions. This unit specializes in the assessment and treatment of older adults experiencing complex symptoms of dementia and unstable medical conditions. The LPN must be able to effectively communicate and interact with an interprofessional care team and assists in de-escalation efforts during behavioral emergencies using NVCI (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention) techniques. The successful candidate must be confident to practice to full scope and be physically able to stand for long periods of time and assist patients with ADL's, compression stocking application, transferring and toileting assistance.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Previous experience in an acute care setting, or charge LPN responsibilities in LTC/subacute/palliative setting. Experience with Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI), dementia certificate in supportive pathways, dementia capable, dementia care, or PIECES and demonstrated experience working with patients with dementia. Must be able to push/pull/bend/ walk and stand for majority of shift.
