Midtown Honda is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our team. The Senior Accountant will oversee the day-to-day financial operations of the dealership, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting. Reporting directly to the Controller, this role plays a vital part in maintaining robust internal controls, managing full-cycle accounting functions specific to the automotive sector (including dealing with floor plan financing, warranty claims, and OEM reconciliations), and providing financial insights to support dealership management.

Key Responsibilities
- General Ledger Management: Oversee full-cycle general ledger activities, including complex journal entries, bank and credit card reconciliations, and month-end/year-end closing procedures.
- Automotive Accounting Specifics: Manage vehicle inventory schedules, floor plan financing accounts, manufacturer (OEM) statements, and warranty receivables/payables.
- Tax Compliance & Remittances: Prepare and file monthly/quarterly HST returns, corporate tax documents, and ensure complete adherence to provincial and federal tax regulations.
- AP/AR & Cash Flow Oversight: Supervise Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable workflows, ensuring timely vendor payments, efficient cash collections, and daily cash-flow monitoring.
- Internal Controls & Audit Support: Evaluate and strengthen internal accounting controls. Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors and corporate tax accountants, preparing working papers and schedules.
- Team Leadership & Collaboration: Provide mentorship, guidance, and daily support to junior accounting staff and administrative clerks.
- Deal Posting: Assist with deal posting when required
- Variance Analysis: Analyze variances between deal gross and financial statement gross, investigating discrepancies and ensuring accuracy.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business disciplineis strongly preferred.
- Experience: 3 to 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within the automotive dealership industry or a multi-department retail environment.
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs). Working knowledge of dealership management systems (DMS like CDK Global, Reynolds & Reynolds, or OneEighty) is a strong asset.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, robust analytical and problem-solving abilities, and strong communication skills to relay financial data to non-financial department managers.
