Position Summary
We are seeking an R&D Engineering Technician to support our Research and Development Team in the development and prototyping of advanced optical imaging products as well as the related optical manufacturing and calibration processes. The successful candidate will assemble, test, troubleshoot, and improve precision optomechanical systems in the R&D phase and support their development into production-ready product subassemblies or manufacturing instrumentation.
Responsibilities

Assemble optical and optomechanical setups from engineering schematics and drawings.

Select and integrate catalog components from suppliers such as Thorlabs, Newport, Edmund Optics, Misumi.

Produce simple tooling, fixtures, and brackets using 3D printing or other rapid prototyping technologies.

Occasional manual rework of mechanical parts using hand tools.

Perform optical alignment and mechanical adjustments under guidance from optical engineers.

Troubleshoot assembly, alignment, and tooling issues and propose practical design improvements.

Document assembly procedures and test results.

Support prototype builds and transition of designs into manufacturing.
Required Qualifications

Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Engineering Technology qualification, or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field. Equivalent industry experience will also be considered.

Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in precision mechanical or optomechanical assembly.

Basic CAD experience (e.g. SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, Fusion 360).

Good practical understanding of precision mechanical assembly, CNC-machined components, additive manufacturing (3D printing), adhesive bonding techniques, engineering measurement methods.

Strong practical troubleshooting skills.
