Principal Electrical Engineer, Energy Storage & Power Systems
Calgary, Alberta | Full-Time | Hybrid | Regular Site Travel
Help shape the reliability and performance of Alberta’s energy infrastructure.
Enfinite is looking for a senior engineering leader who can bring sound judgment to complex technical decisions across our battery energy storage and power-generation portfolio.
This is a hands-on principal-level role for an engineer who understands how assets perform beyond the design package. You will help solve difficult operating problems, strengthen engineering standards, guide capital projects and modifications, and provide clear technical recommendations where safety, reliability, cost, schedule, and long-term asset value all matter.
What You Will Be Responsible For
- Act as a senior technical authority for battery energy storage, electrical systems, substations, protection and control, SCADA, and supporting infrastructure.
- Lead complex troubleshooting, root-cause investigations, reliability improvements, and technical risk assessments.
- Support asset lifecycle planning, including equipment condition, degradation, obsolescence, repair, replacement, and capital investment.
- Provide engineering oversight for facility upgrades, equipment replacements, commissioning, and major asset modifications.
- Review and challenge designs, studies, technical specifications, vendor recommendations, and third-party engineering work.
- Strengthen Enfinite’s engineering standards, management-of-change practices, documentation, and technical governance.
- Provide technical direction to consultants, OEMs, contractors, engineers, and operations teams.
- Translate complex engineering issues into practical recommendations for executives and non-technical stakeholders.
- Regular travel to facilities and project sites throughout Alberta and British Columbia will be required.
What We Need to See on Your Resume
- A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or another directly relevant engineering discipline.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer with APEGA, or eligibility to register within an agreed period.
- At least 12 years of progressively responsible engineering experience in electrical power, utilities, generation, energy storage, industrial facilities, or comparable infrastructure.
- Experience working at a senior, lead, specialist, or principal-engineer level.
- Strong experience with several of the following:
- Utility-scale battery energy storage systems
- Medium- and high-voltage electrical systems
- Substations, transformers, switchgear, and power-system equipment
- Protection, control, SCADA, automation, or grid interconnection
- Asset reliability, troubleshooting, and failure investigation
- Capital projects, commissioning, facility upgrades, or major maintenance
- Experience managing engineering consultants, OEMs, contractors, or technical service providers.
- Field experience supporting operating assets, construction, testing, outages, commissioning, or energization.
- Experience in an owner-operator environment and direct experience with utility-scale battery storage are strong assets.
What We Will Assess During the Interview
Your resume tells us where you have worked. The interview will help us understand how you work. We will explore how you:
- Make defensible engineering decisions when information is incomplete or competing priorities are involved.
- Raise safety or reliability concerns early and hold your ground when the recommendation may be difficult or unpopular.
- Investigate failures, identify root causes, and follow corrective actions through to completion.
- Balance technical quality with operational realities, commercial value, schedule, and lifecycle cost.
- Challenge consultants, vendors, and internal assumptions constructively.
- Explain complex technical matters clearly to engineers, operators, executives, and external stakeholders.
- Share knowledge, strengthen others, and create space for healthy technical debate.
- Respond to setbacks with curiosity, accountability, and a focus on building more resilient systems.
