About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced, strategic, and collaborative Director of Engineering to lead our multidisciplinary engineering team. At our core, we develop advanced hardware and testing solutions for the drone and aeronautics industries.
The ideal candidate is an inspiring engineering leader who excels at bridging the gap between high-level R&D and scalable product development. You will guide the team in establishing rigorous engineering methodologies, ensuring seamless transition of products to manufacturing, and fostering a highly collaborative culture. Working closely with executive leadership and the other directors, you will align technical roadmaps with business objectives while acting as a multiplier for your team's success.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Execution
- Provide high-level technical direction for the development of complex hardware systems, testing equipment, and integrated software/firmware.
- Establish and enforce rigorous engineering methodologies, ensuring meticulous technical documentation, robust calibration protocols, and adherence to industry standards.
- Oversee the stable transition of products from the R&D lab into manufacturing, actively mitigating risks related to production, calibration, and system stability.
- Anticipate technical hurdles through systems-level thinking, ensuring technical specifications and product capabilities are always accurately represented and backed by rigorous data.
Leadership & Team Building
- Lead, mentor, and scale a diverse engineering team, with a strategic focus on hiring and empowering senior-level talent to drive efficiency and innovation.
- Champion a collaborative engineering culture that actively breaks down inter-departmental silos and encourages open, constructive dialogue.
- Empower team leads and individual contributors to execute effectively while maintaining appropriate high-level oversight and accountability.
Strategic Alignment & Communication
- Act as a strategic partner to the CTO, ensuring continuous alignment on strategic milestones, resourcing, and engineering roadmaps.
- Promote clear, concise communication across the department, ensuring team meetings and technical discussions are focused, efficient, and drive actionable outcomes.
- Translate and distill complex technical challenges into clear executive summaries to facilitate data-driven decision-making at the leadership level.
Qualifications
- Experience: 15+ years of engineering experience, with at least 5+ years in a senior management, Director, or Head of Engineering role.
- Technical Background: A strong multidisciplinary background in electronics, software, mechanical, and manufacturing engineering. Deep understanding of hardware development lifecycles.
- Industry Knowledge: Experience in the drone, aeronautics, or hardware testing industries is highly preferred. Familiarity with load cells, aerodynamics, and dynamic/fatigue testing is a strong asset.
- Leadership Style: A proven track record of building and empowering high-performing teams, fostering accountability, and prioritizing organizational success.
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Problem Solving: Exceptional analytical skills with a proactive, data-driven approach to technical and operational challenges.
- Have the authorization to work in Canada
- French bilingualism highly preferred
Pay: $120,000.00-$170,000.00 per year
