Brunel Commercial Interiors is currently looking for Summer Students. Our facility is located near Glenmore and Blackfoot in SE Calgary. Brunel was established in 1964 and is still a family owned and operated business.
Position Summary
The Metal Shop Summer Student assists skilled tradespeople and shop personnel with the fabrication, assembly, finishing, and handling of metal products. This position provides hands-on experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment while developing workplace safety, technical, and teamwork skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with cutting, grinding, drilling, and finishing metal components.
- Operate basic shop tools and equipment under supervision.
- Load, unload, and move materials throughout the shop.
- Support welding and fabrication projects as directed.
- Clean and maintain work areas, tools, and equipment.
- Measure and mark materials according to specifications.
- Follow all workplace health and safety procedures.
- Perform quality checks on finished products.
- Assist with inventory organization and material storage.
- Complete other general labour duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in high school, college, university, or a trades program.
- Interest in manufacturing, welding, metal fabrication, or skilled trades.
- Ability to safely use hand and power tools.
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 25–50 lbs (11–23 kg).
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical tasks throughout the shift.
- Comfortable working in a shop or industrial environment.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous shop, construction, or labour experience.
- Basic knowledge of metalworking tools and equipment.
- Familiarity with measuring tools such as tape measures and calipers.
