Operates, monitors, and performs preventive and demand maintenance on mechanical operating equipment, building environmental systems, building envelope, and grounds at St. Joseph’s Lifecare Centre Brantford to provide a safe, secure, and comfortable environment for residents, patients, visitors, and staff.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & SUCCESS CRITERIA
- To perform work related to:
- HVAC system operation and maintenance

plumbing repairs
-
electrical repair
-
mechanical repairs
-
welding
-
carpentry
-
painting and decoration
-
grounds maintenance
-
chemical treatment
-
Accept delegated responsibility and show leadership related to major installation and repairs.·

Provide assistance to the Facilities Manager within the scope of this role, in the carrying out of:
- daily operations
-
reakdowns and emergency repairs
-
co-operation with contractors
- Evaluate situations thoroughly, creating action plan once done.

Work rotating weekends and participate in “on-call” rotation.

Co-operate with the Manager of Facilities on preventive maintenance programs development.

Assist in programs such as Energy Management and Conservation, Occupational Health and Safety, Emergency Measures, etc.

Assist with SJLB fire compliance inspections.
-
Provide necessary documentation related to departmental operation.
-
Assist with maintenance stock inventory, material/parts specification, and/or delivery.

Work safely and to comply with the requirements of the occupational Health and Safety Act and Lifecare and Safety Programs.

In addition to the above responsibilities, employees shall be responsible for all the duties outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act (R.S.O. 1990 c.0.1).
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Apprenticeship trade or certificate in at least one of the following:

Stationary Engineer 3rd Class
-
Electrician
-
Mechanic
-
Plumber
-
Building Maintenance Mechanic Certificate
-
Heating, Refrigeration, Air-Conditioning Certificate
-
Building Environmental Systems Certificate
-
Environmental building maintenance certificate or equivalent
-
Minimum 4 to 5 years’ experience in facilities maintenance
-
Plumbing knowledge, an asset
-
Must have the ability to work alone with minimum supervision.
