This is the most important requirement for the role. The successful candidate must be able to design, detail, and prepare millwork drawings in alignment with AWMAC / NAAWS standards, commercial project requirements, and professional millwork documentation practices.
The role focuses primarily on commercial millwork projects, including offices, retail spaces, hospitality environments, restaurants, showrooms, institutional spaces, and other commercial interiors. Residential millwork experience is considered an additional asset, but the priority is direct experience with commercial millwork design and AWMAC / NAAWS standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Design commercial millwork, cabinetry, built-ins, closets, wall units, vanities, storage solutions, and custom interior features.
- Prepare conceptual designs, technical drawings, shop drawings, elevations, sections, details, 3D presentations, and production-ready documentation.
- Apply AWMAC / NAAWS standards throughout the design and documentation process.
- Ensure drawings include accurate dimensions, materials, finishes, construction details, hardware, clearances, installation requirements, and production specifications.
- Review architectural drawings, site measurements, specifications, and project requirements.
- Translate design intent into clear, detailed, and buildable millwork drawings.
- Coordinate with project managers, production teams, installers, contractors, designers, and architects.
- Identify potential design, fabrication, compliance, or installation issues before production.
- Revise drawings based on client feedback, production requirements, site conditions, or technical review.
- Maintain organized project files and accurate drawing documentation.
Required Qualifications
- Strong working knowledge of AWMAC / NAAWS standards is required.
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in commercial millwork design.
- Proven ability to prepare millwork drawings that align with professional standards, specifications, and production requirements.

- Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, or other kitchen/millwork design software.
- Ability to prepare conceptual layouts, shop drawings, technical details, 3D drawings, and production-ready documentation.
- Strong understanding of commercial millwork construction, joinery, materials, finishes, hardware, clearances, and installation requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, technical specifications, and site measurements.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and documentation quality.
- Ability to work independently in a hybrid/remote structure.
- Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate with technical and non-technical teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with 2020 Design, Chief Architect, Cabinet Vision, Microvellum, or similar industry-specific software.
- Residential millwork, kitchen, closet, or custom cabinetry experience is considered an asset.
- Experience with premium commercial interiors, hospitality projects, retail environments, or high-end architectural millwork.
- Understanding of luxury finishes, European-style cabinetry, and detailed custom millwork solutions.
Work Arrangement
This is a part-time hybrid role with approximately:
- 80% remote work
- 20% in-person work for meetings, site reviews, showroom/project coordination, production discussions, or technical reviews when required
Compensation
Compensation is project-based and negotiable, depending on experience, technical ability, knowledge of AWMAC / NAAWS standards, and project scope.
