Job Description
Reporting to the Managing Partner, the Staff Accountant will have a sound understanding of generally accepted accounting principals (GAAP) and will be able to apply them to various tasks that are assigned to them. The Staff Accountant will strive to provide our clients with exceptional service.
Responsibilities
- Manage and prepare Audits, Reviews and Compilation engagements for clients in a timely and proficient manner, with great attention to detail
- Prepare compilations of financial information confidently
- Complete T3010 fully and identify areas throughout the file that would need to be included on the T3010
- Handling multiple engagements efficiently and effectively
- Preparation and/or review of personal (T1) , corporate (T2) or other tax filings
- Prepare T4 & T5 summaries and slips
- Prepare GST/HST returns and rebates
- Conducting personal and corporate income tax planning for owner-managed clients and businesses
- Assisting clients with their bookkeeping and software questions and issues as required
- Special projects as directed by the Managing Partner and based on client’s needs
- Marketing the firm to support overall firm growth and new business development
- Manage workflow, ensuring deadlines are met and proper communication is conducted with clients and manager
- Foster a positive, supportive, and professional work environment in which everyone is treated with respect and dignity
Required Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
- Working towards CPA preferred but not required
Skills
- Microsoft office skills: specifically Outlook, Word, Excel
- Accounting software: Caseware, Taxprep experience is ideal
- Data entry skills along with proficiency with numbers
- Sound and practical knowledge and understanding of accounting procedures
- Quick learner, highly organized and ability to multi-task
- Self motivated and able to work both independently as well as in a team
Experience
- Experience working at an accounting firm: 1 -2 years preferred
- Public Accounting Experience - 1 Year Preferred
