Job Summary: In accordance with the Purpose, Vision, Values, Coast Salish Teachings, and strategic direction of PHSA, safety, including both patient and employee safety, is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA. As such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position. Reporting to the Program Manager or similar position and in accordance with established policies, standards and procedures, manages the day-to-day operations and activities of the laboratory; supervises technical, clerical and student staff in the department; formats appointment schedules, monitors slot utilization and availability; performs a variety of diagnostic neurophysiology procedures, and performs duties of a diagnostic neurophysiology technologist as required. Duties/Accountabilities: 1. Directs, supervises and coordinates the activities of technical and clerical staff in the Neurophysiology Department by performing duties such as scheduling and coordinating work assignments, evaluating employees’ performances and determining related training and orientation requirements. 2. Monitors patient appointment availability; adjusts appointment slots to meet demands; monitors the output of the Department and provides documentation of quality control standards. 3. Schedules all special procedures; liaises with medical, nursing and other hospital staff regarding bookings. 4. Coordinates investigation and evaluation of new equipment; provides input to capital budget annually in conjunction with Medical Director. 5. Recruits staff and students; selects, disciplines and terminates employees in conjunction with Medical Director; delivers EEG technical staff and student orientations in laboratory policies and procedures. 6. Authorizes payroll records and overtime. 7. Oversees the teaching supervisors of the training program. 8. Responsible for equipment repair, servicing and preventative maintenance by contacting the biomedical technologist or the manufacturer. 9. Coordinates regional service at a satellite department; sets patient and staff scheduling; answers inquiries and reports to Medical Director. 10. Investigates patient and physician complaints and reports to Medical Director. 11. Attends scientific courses and seminars with emphasis on new procedures and equipment product developments; arranges for staff attendance and participation in continuing education courses and seminars. 12. Conducts and/or participates in research and development projects. 13. Performs duties of diagnostic neurophysiology technologist as required. 14. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications: Education, Training and Experience • Graduation from an approved Electrophysiology Course or a hospital-based training programme from an approved institution plus five years recent, related experience including one year’s recent paediatric experience and one year supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience acceptable to the Hospital. • Registration with the Canadian or American Board of Registration for Electroencephalograph Technologists (R.E.T. OR R.EEG T.). • Certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Plus one of the following registrations: • Registration with the American Board of Registered Evoked Potential Technologists (R.EP T.) • Registration with the Canadian or American board of Registered EMG Technologists (RT(EMG) or R.ED T.) • Registration with the American Board of Registration in Intraoperative Monitoring (CNIM). Two additional registrations from above list of three will place the incumbent at Grid Level 12. Skills and Abilities • Ability to supervise. • Ability to lead and teach. • Ability to work independently and to organize and prioritize workload. • Physical ability to perform the duties of the job. • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. • An understanding and troubleshooting knowledge of numerous pieces of neurophysiology equipment. • Knowledge of Neurophysiology computer applications and skilled in troubleshooting problems.
