Sqwá First Nation – Graduation Coach
Sqwá First Nation is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Graduation Coach to support students and families in achieving educational success.
Reporting to the Education Director, this role focuses on supporting students from Kindergarten through Grade 12 by building strong relationships with schools, families, and community supports. The successful candidate will advocate for students, help identify barriers, and coordinate supports to ensure students remain on a successful educational path toward graduation.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Build strong relationships with students, families, school staff, and community partners.
- Work with school-based staff to monitor the progress of students in Grades 9–12.
- Review student progress (report cards, feedback) to assess graduation readiness.
- Identify students who may be at risk and support the development of success plans.
- Facilitate meetings with families, school staff, and Sqwá Education to determine next steps and supports.
- Support Kindergarten to Grade 8 students by working with counsellors and learning support teachers to identify challenges.
- Connect students and families with appropriate resources and supports.
- Advocate for students with external stakeholders and school systems.
- Maintain accurate meeting summaries and provide regular updates to the Education Director.
- Ensure all work is conducted in a culturally respectful and trauma-informed manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Education.
Required Qualifications
- Grade 12 Diploma (post-secondary education in a related field is preferred).
- Experience working with youth.
- Strong ability to build rapport and connect with students and families.
- Understanding of trauma-informed practices and cultural awareness.
- Experience advocating for youth and working with external stakeholders.
- Experience within the BC school system is an asset.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow Sqwá First Nation policies and procedures.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including vulnerable sector).
- Valid Driver’s License.

- Knowledge, respect, and understanding of Stó:lō culture, traditions, and language.
- Experience working within a First Nations community.
Compensation & Work Schedule
- Hourly Rate: $25.00 – $30.00 (based on experience)
- Status: Term Contract (until June 2026)
- Schedule: 35 hours per week
