About the Role
We are seeking a versatile in-house Senior Legal Counsel, to serve as a trusted advisor to our Partners and senior leaders. This role operates at the intersection of strategy, governance, and execution, making it ideal for a seasoned legal professional who can balance high-level advisory with hands-on management of day-to-day legal matters. The successful candidate will play a key role in enabling the Firm’s growth while ensuring strong governance, effective risk management, and ongoing regulatory compliance.
As a generalist, the Senior Legal Counsel will support the organization across a broad range of legal and regulatory matters including corporate and commercial advisory, regulatory compliance + ethics, risk management + professional liability, employment law, strategic growth + transactions, and privacy + date governance amongst other areas. This position offers significant autonomy and influence and is ideal for someone with strong judgment, a pragmatic mindset, and the confidence to operate effectively in an agile, lean, and fast-paced firm.
This is a new role for Davidson, and we are open to flexible work arrangements, including full-time or part-time, as the firm grows.
Key Responsibilities

Provide practical legal advice and guidance on a wide range of firm matters, including corporate governance, structuring, mandates, and best practices
- Support committee meetings, including preparation of materials, resolutions, and maintenance of firm records
- Support the development and maintenance of firm policies and governance frameworks
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts and strategic agreements including client engagements, vender contracts, NDAs, and partnership agreements
- Ensure compliance with applicable professional standards and regulatory requirements
- Identify and mitigate legal and operational risks across the firm
- Advise on engagement risk, liability exposure, and insurance matters
- Advise on independence, conflicts of interest, and ethical obligations within a public practice environment.
- Manage and assist with the resolution of client disputes and sensitive matters, including those involving public companies, while coordinating with internal stakeholders, external counsel, regulators, and clients
- Manage and coordinate litigation, disputes, and investigations where necessary involving external counsel where needed
- Provide guidance on data privacy, confidentiality, and information governance requirements ensuring compliance with privacy legislation
- Advise on employment and human resources–related legal matters ensuring compliance with employment legislation and best practices
- Support mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic growth initiatives, including due diligence and transaction documentation
- Advise on new service offerings and client engagement models
- Manage and coordinate external legal counsel effectively and cost-efficiently where required
- Develop, enhance, and scale internal legal processes, templates, and documentation
Qualifications & Experience

7+ years of legal experience, including in-house corporate experience and/or private practice followed by in-house roles
- Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctor (JD), Bachelor of Laws (LLB), or equivalent legal degree from a recognized law school
- Experience with professional services environment preferred, but not required
- Demonstrated ability to operate as a hands-on, full-scope legal generalist
- Proven ability to work independently in a lean, high-responsibility environment
- Strong business acumen, sound judgment, and a pragmatic approach to risk management
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage confidently with executive leadership and Boards
- Admission to practice law in a relevant Canadian jurisdiction
Compensation
We believe in transparency and fairness when it comes to compensation. For this role, the annual salary range is $170-190K, depending on experience. Our total rewards package adds more value beyond the base salary.
