Job Description
Calvin Barry Professional Corporation is seeking a motivated and experienced Licensed Paralegal with a focus on Provincial Offences Act (POA) and Highway Traffic Act (HTA) matters to join our team. This is a full-time, permanent, on-site position.
The successful candidate will independently manage a caseload of provincial offence matters, represent clients in court, conduct legal research, prepare legal documents, negotiate with prosecutors, and provide exceptional client service while maintaining the highest professional standards.
Duties
- Represent clients in Provincial Offences Act and Highway Traffic Act matters before the Ontario Court of Justice.
- Manage files from intake through resolution, including client communication and case strategy.
- Conduct legal research and analyze applicable legislation and case law.
- Draft legal documents, court forms, correspondence, and submissions.
- Review disclosure and identify legal and evidentiary issues.
- Negotiate resolutions with prosecutors where appropriate.
- Attend court appearances, trials, first appearances, and resolution meetings.
- Maintain accurate file records and ensure compliance with court deadlines.
- Provide clear legal advice and guidance to clients within the authorized scope of paralegal practice.
Qualifications
- Licensed Paralegal in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- Experience handling Provincial Offences Act and Highway Traffic Act matters.
- Strong knowledge of Ontario traffic and provincial offences legislation and court procedures.
- Excellent advocacy, negotiation, and courtroom presentation skills.
- Strong legal research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple files efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
