Lead Our Surgical Excellence: Operating Room (OR) Coordinator (RN or LPN)

We are seeking a highly skilled Operating Room (OR) Coordinator to take the helm of our surgical suite. In this senior frontline role, you will be the driving force behind our daily clinical operations, ensuring a safe, efficient, and compliant experience for every patient.
Whether you are a Registered Nurse (RN) or a highly trained Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with advanced perioperative credentials, this role requires a hands-on clinical expert who thrives in a fast-paced environment. Reporting to the Director of Clinical and Surgical Operations, you will lead your team, champion our Quality Management System (QMS), and ensure we exceed CPSA standards every single day.
What You Will Do
As the operational and clinical leader of the OR, your responsibilities will span direct patient care, team leadership, and rigorous quality assurance:
Clinical Leadership & Daily Operations
- Act as the "Charge Nurse" of the surgical suite, dynamically managing the daily schedule and ensuring seamless patient flow from admission to discharge.
- Coordinate team activities and assign daily roles (scrub, circulating, recovery) based on case requirements and staff skill mix.
- Function as a hands-on clinical expert—stepping in to perform scrub, circulating, or recovery duties to support your team and the Chief Surgeon.
- Serve as the primary clinical resource and troubleshooter for the technical staff.
Emergency Preparedness & Patient Safety
- Take absolute frontline accountability for emergency readiness. You will execute and document mandatory mock emergency drills (Code Blue, Fire, Anaphylaxis) every 6 months.
- Manage the emergency resuscitation cart, ensuring daily/monthly checks are completed, medications are in-date, and the defibrillator is functional.
- Lead the initial frontline staff response during any medical emergency until the Surgeon or Medical Director assumes command.
Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) and MDR Oversight
- Act as the facility’s frontline IPC expert, directly auditing hand hygiene, aseptic techniques, and environmental cleaning protocols.
- Provide supervision and mentorship to Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) Technicians.
- Rigorously audit all MDR logs (sterilizer printouts, biological/chemical indicators) to ensure 100% compliance before any instruments are released for surgical use.
Quality Assurance & Inventory Management
- Enforce the flawless execution of the Surgical Safety Checklist (Briefing, Time Out, Debriefing) for every procedure.
- Audit patient charts for completeness, identify/report non-conformances, and assist with staff orientation and annual competency assessments.
- Manage daily surgical supplies, implants, and medications, while ensuring all OR/MDR equipment (sterilizers, lasers, monitors) has current preventative maintenance logs.
What You Bring to the Team
We are looking for a decisive, safety-oriented leader. Because this role is open to both RNs and LPNs, we place a massive premium on specialized perioperative training and proven clinical leadership.
Licensure & Education:
- Active registration in good standing with the CRNA (for RNs) or CLPNA (for LPNs).
- For LPN Applicants: You must hold a current CLPNA Advanced Authorization in Perioperative Care and authorization for medication administration. Your specialized hands-on training is critical here.
Experience:
- A minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in a perioperative (OR/Recovery) setting.
- A minimum of 2 years in a formal or informal leadership role (e.g., Team Lead, Preceptor, Charge Nurse).
- Asset: Specific experience in Ophthalmic or Corneal Refractive surgery, including laser safety, is highly preferred.
Certifications & Knowledge:
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
- Expert-level, hands-on knowledge of aseptic technique, intraoperative procedures, post-anesthesia care, and Medical Device Reprocessing (CSA standards).
- Strong working knowledge of CPSA Non-Hospital Surgical Facility standards, specifically regarding emergency preparedness and infection control.
