Job Title: Senior Project Engineer
General Accountabilities
Coordinates, controls, monitors, and supervises all phases of the assigned multi-year, multi- discipline capital project(s), including inception, definition of scope, planning, design, procurement and construction, through commissioning and handover to project close-out. Ensures project delivery is in accordance with project scope, schedule, budget and quality assurance parameters.
Senior Project Engineer Responsibilities:
- Resolve day-to-day issues and conflicts among designers and stakeholders throughout the contract duration.
- Direct engineers and designers to implement changes to contract documents promptly and accurately.
- Conduct and attend meetings with external agencies and government departments as required.
- Prepare Staff Summary Sheets and Board Reports on various project matters, including status updates.
- Compile project status updates for inclusion in Project Summary Reports and presentations to senior management.
- Prepare and review project administration documents, including:
Contract change initiations
Project work plans
Purchase authorizations
Status reports
Work order requests
Minutes of meetings
Internal work authorizations
Procurement requisitions
Cheque requisitions (e.g., permits)
Work plan release initiations
Sign-off templates (design phase)
Purchase order amendment authority
- Provide emergency engineering support and guidance to operating departments on a 24-hour basis upon request.
- Maintain professional competency by attending internal and external seminars and courses related to technical, contractual, and professional development.
- Take professional responsibility for work performed under direct supervision, in accordance with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) requirements.
- Assist in developing and implementing procedures related to areas of responsibility.
- Substitute for the Project Manager when required.
- Treats passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensures the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within their area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from as a service- provider and an employer.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
- University degree in a relevant engineering discipline (preferably in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical), combined with extensive experience in the areas of projects/construction and engineering management of heavy construction and/or large multi-disciplined projects.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P. Eng) registration in the Province of Ontario is mandatory
- Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in a transit operating environment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of current engineering principles and practices combined with a comprehensive knowledge of project management principles and practices, including conceptual planning and all phases of design.
- Familiarity with project management information systems and reporting as it relates to control of scope, scheduling and cost.
- Comprehensive knowledge of construction techniques and practices, contract administration, construction inspection, and knowledge of the Construction Act.
- Sound judgement; highly developed time management, organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and work with multi-disciplined teams, deal with complex issues, and maintain effective working relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to motivate, influence and obtain cooperation from a diverse group of internal and external project stakeholders to achieve the goals and objectives of the project.
- Proficiency in the use of a PC and software applications related to the work (Microsoft Office).
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees
Assets
- Project Management Professional (PMP) issued by the Project Management Institute (PMI).
- A valid Province of Ontario Class G driver’s license would be an asset. Consultants may be required to use their own vehicle for visits to construction sites that are not easily accessible by public transit.
Pay: $75.00-$95.00 per hour
