Previous experience providing home support, senior care, personal care, or caregiving services is preferred.

Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and experienced Home Support Worker to provide in-home care and assistance to a senior client recovering from a stroke. The successful candidate will support the client with daily living activities while promoting independence, safety, comfort, and overall well-being.
Preference will be given to candidates who have strong knowledge and experience with caring for visible minorities. The ability to prepare a variety of traditional indegenous Nigerian meals is an important requirement for this position, as the client has specific cultural food preferences. Experience preparing Nigerian dishes such as soups, stews, and other traditional local meals is highly preferred.
A male candidate is preferred due to the physical nature of some caregiving duties; however, candidates of any gender are welcome to apply. The ideal candidate will be patient, respectful, reliable, and genuinely committed to providing high-quality care to a senior client recovering from a stroke, and multiple complex medical conditions.
Duties
- Assist the client with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and personal hygiene.
- Provide mobility assistance, including support with walking, transfers, positioning, and mobility exercises as directed.
- Prepare nutritious meals according to the client's dietary needs, preferences, and care requirements.
- Assist with meal planning, grocery shopping, and food preparation as needed.
- Provide medication reminders and assistance with medications as directed and permitted by the client's care plan.
- Monitor and report changes in the client's health, mobility, behaviour, or overall condition.
- Perform light housekeeping duties, including cleaning, laundry, organizing, and maintaining a safe and comfortable home environment.
- Provide companionship, emotional support, and encouragement during the client's recovery.
- Assist with medical appointments, errands, and other activities as required.
- Maintain respectful, culturally sensitive, and client-centred care at all times.
Requirement
- At least a high school diploma & health care certification.
- First Aid & CPR Training required
- Medication administration training
- Nigerian cultural and culinary knowledge is highly preferred.
- Ability to assist safely with mobility, transfers, and physical support.
- Ability to perform physical duties, including lifting and repositioning the client when required.
- Compassionate, patient, respectful, and reliable demeanor.
- Ability to work independently and provide attentive, consistent care.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, or other times as required.
- Added advantage - ability to communicate in Yoruba.
Preferred Candidate
A Home Support Worker with experience preparing authentic Nigerian cuisine is strongly preferred due to the client's cultural and dietary preferences. A male candidate is preferred because of the physical requirements of the position; however, all qualified candidates, regardless of gender, are encouraged to apply.
