PetValu is one of the largest retail operations in North America dedicated to providing families with food and supplies for dogs, cats, birds, fish, reptiles, and small animals. Our PetValu location is locally owned and operated by pet experts who are also passionate pet lovers within the community.
At PetValu, we are dedicated to helping local pets in need, and we partner with local shelters, rescues and charities for adoption events, in-store adoption and pet food bank programs, as well as through our national donation drives and fundraising campaigns.
Sales associates will assist with ensuring consistently great execution which allows us to invest in meaningful time with our customers. They recommend the best products and services to create the healthiest, most playful life for all pets. They share accountability to drive profit to fuel our growth and future as the Devoted Pet Lover’s life-cycle partner. They also assist with all operations in the store and help represent our store in surrounding communities. They prioritize Safety, Compassion, Expertise and Efficiency in all they do, and they live by and coach to our Core Beliefs.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly and assist them in finding products that meet their needs
- Provide knowledgeable assistance and explain product to enhance customer understanding
- Engage in upselling techniques to maximize sales opportunities
- Manage point-of-sale (POS) transactions accurately, including cash handling and processing payments
- Maintain attractive merchandise displays and ensure proper organization of products
- Ensure excellent phone etiquette when handling calls and inquiries
- Support inventory management and restocking as needed; assist customers with lifting/handling as needed
- Assist with store organization, cleanliness, and adherence to merchandising standards
- Develop strong product knowledge to effectively communicate benefits and features
Requirements
- Experience in retail or customer service preferred
- Working knowledge of POS system preferred
- Possess outgoing and friendly personality with strong customer service skills
- Excellent communication and customer service skills. Candidates must be confident explaining products, providing expert advice, and building positive relationships with customers through clear and professional communication.
- Must be able to lift 50lbs repetitively
- Ability to have reliable means of transportation to and from the store
- Must be comfortable around cats and dogs
- Must be able to work independently and self-regulate their work
- This part-time position is strictly 1-2 evening shifts (4pm - 9pm) and at least one weekend shift. Applicants must be available to work these hours on a consistent basis. Candidates who do not meet this availability requirement will not be considered.
There is a mandatory online training program (approx. 16 hours) with a 180 day deadline to complete. It is expected that new hires are committed to a long-term position.
