SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Responsible for the planning and implementation of community engagement activities and special internal Museum events. Develops and maintains an outreach strategy to reach new audiences and increase the museum’s visibility and reach. This position is also responsible for identifying, establishing and maintaining current and new partners, stakeholders and affiliate groups relationships.
EDUCATION
- Post-secondary degree in Education (B. Ed), Museology, or a related field is required.
- Event Management diploma or relevant experience is an asset.
EXPERIENCE
- Two years experience developing programs and activities in a museum setting.
- Two years experience developing special events and outreach activities in a museum setting
KNOWLEDGE
- Considerable knowledge of event planning or management.
- Knowledge of organization and practices dealing with external clients, partners, affiliates and collaborators.
- General knowledge of museology.
- Specialized knowledge of the Museum’s collection is required for delivering events
- General knowledge of aviation/space science and history.
- Knowledge of CASM’s mandate, objectives, programs, services, roles, responsibilities.
- General knowledge is required of the interpretative process, including how people learn, how children learn, interpretative techniques, and audience expectations in order to develop interpretative activities for various groups.
- Knowledge of management practices as they relate to budgeting, planning and monitoring of activities and programs for special events.
Knowledge of health and safety as it relates to museum events and the general welfare of the visitors, partners and staff.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- Project management skills are required in managing the entire development and delivery of special events.
- Excellent organizational skills are imperative to be able to manage the scope and coordination of special and outreach events.
- Effective communication skills including: excellent oral and written communications skills required to work with partners, affiliates and internal stakeholders on events; tact and negotiating skill are required to coordinate the implementation of events with other work units and external partners competing for the same limited, shared resources; good writing skills (composition and editing)
- Good strategic thinking, problem-solving skills and creativity including the ability to handle unexpected changes and developments that can take place during outreach and special events.
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Financial management skills (budgeting, forecasting, etc.)
- Diplomacy when working with external groups, partners and affiliates that have a vested interest with the Museum.
Conflict management and resolution skills.
