Role Overview:
The Senior Accountant is a hands-on, detail-oriented professional responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting operations and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records across multiple entities. This role is deeply involved in daily financial activities, including transaction oversight, reconciliations, and cash management, while also leading the month-end and year-end close processes.
Working in a fast-paced environment, the Senior Accountant ensure that financial data is accurate, up to date, and compliant with Canadian accounting standards (ASPE). This role also supports audits, tax processes, and continues improvement of financial systems and workflows.
Success in this position requires strong technical accounting skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
1. Daily Accounting Operations:
- Oversee and manage day-to-day accounting activities across all entities.
- Review and maintain general ledger activity, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Process and review journal entries, accruals, and adjustments.
- Monitor accounts payable, accounts receivable, and expense tracking.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
2. Financial Reporting & Close:
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations.
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial statements.
- Maintain supporting schedules and ensure balances are properly reconciled.
- Perform variance analysis and explain key financial movements.
3. Cash Management:
- Maintain weekly cash flow, bank activity, and account balances.
- Perform bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Oversee intercompany transactions and prepaid accounts.
- Monitor liquidity and ensure funds are allocated effectively.
4. Compliance & Controls:
- Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards (ASPE) and internal policies.
- Maintain organized and audit-ready financial records.
- Support external audits by preparing schedules and documentation.
- Assist with tax filings and related reporting requirements.
5. Budgeting & Financial Monitoring:
- Support the preparation of budgets and forecasts.
- Track actual performance against budget and highlight variances.
6. Systems & Process Improvement:
- Maintain and improve accounting systems
- Follow and improve existing standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Identify inefficiencies in daily processes and recommend improvements.
- Support automation and reporting enhancements.
7. External Coordination:
- Liaise with external accountants, auditors, banks, and vendors as needed.
- Provide required documentation and support for audits and financial reviews.
8. Other Duties as Assigned:
- Support additional accounting and operation tasks as required.
- Contribute to maintaining and organized, efficient finance function.
KPIs & Success Metrics
- Accuracy and completeness of daily financial records.
- Timely completion of reconciliations and month-end close.
- Strong cash flow visibility and management.
- Compliance with all regulatory and reporting requirements.
- Responsiveness in resolving discrepancies and issues.
Requirements:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong working knowledge of Canadian Accounting standards (ASPE)
- Hands on experience with full-cycle accounting.
- Proficiency in QBO and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage day-to-day priorities.
Preferred:
- CPA designation or actively pursuing.
- Experience with multi-entity or multi-country operations.
- Familiarity with ADP and ServiceTitan.
