People Operations Manager
Chief Operating Officer
The People Operations Manager is responsible for owning and operating the People function at Lastwall. This is a standalone role with full ownership across People Operations, requiring both strategic leadership and hands-on execution.
This role is based in Fredericton and serves as the primary People Operations presence for the company, working closely with leadership and teams across the organization.
This individual will partner with leadership on organizational design, workforce planning, performance management, and team development, while ensuring that core People processes are consistent, compliant, and scalable across both Canada and the United States.
This role does not have direct reports and requires the ability to operate independently across all areas of People Operations.

People Strategy and Organizational Support

Partner with leadership on organizational design, workforce planning, and team structure

Provide guidance to managers on performance management, employee relations, and team effectiveness

Identify organizational gaps and take ownership of implementing solutions to improve structure and alignment

Hiring and Talent Support

Partner with hiring managers to define roles, scope responsibilities, and develop job descriptions

Drive hiring processes across technical and non-technical roles, ensuring consistency and quality

Improve interview structure, evaluation standards, and candidate experience

Manage offers and ensure a smooth, well-structured onboarding process

Culture and Employee Experience

Ensure consistency between stated expectations and how teams are managed, evaluated, and developed

Identify gaps between intended and actual employee experience and take ownership of addressing them

Establish and maintain clear feedback loops to understand how teams are operating and where adjustments are needed

Compensation and Leveling

Maintain and evolve salary bands and leveling frameworks

Support compensation reviews and benchmarking efforts

Ensure alignment and consistency across Canadian and U.S. employees

Employee Lifecycle Management

Own onboarding, performance management, and offboarding

Develop and maintain structured, consistent employee processes and documentation

Serve as the primary point of contact for employee and manager-related matters

HR Operations and Compliance (Canada & U.S.)

Ensure compliance with Canadian employment law and applicable U.S. federal and state requirements

Own HR policies, documentation, and audit readiness

Partner with accounting by ensuring accurate employee data, status changes, and approvals for payroll processing

Manage cross-border considerations, including employment classification and benefits coordination

Systems and Infrastructure

Own and manage Rippling (HRIS), including employee data, workflows, and reporting

Ensure data integrity and system accuracy across all People-related processes

Build and maintain all core People Operations infrastructure, ensuring systems are structures, reliable, and scalable

Proof of Canadian or US citizenship and residency
-
5–8+ years of experience in People Operations, HRBP, or similar roles, preferably within startups or high-growth environments

Experience supporting recruiting and hiring processes across multiple roles

Strong working knowledge of Canadian employment law and familiarity with U.S. requirements

Experience operating independently or as a primary People/HR resource

Experience with compensation frameworks, leveling, and performance management

Experience with HRIS platforms (Rippling preferred)

Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills

Ability to manage multiple priorities and operate effectively in a dynamic environment

Candidates must be U.S. or Canadian citizens and must reside and work within the United States or Canada. This role is ideally based in the Maritimes, with regular travel to Fredericton, NB required. Occasional additional travel may be required.
